Hank Donat appeared
with San Francisco's legendary man-on-the-street interviewer, Mal Sharpe,
on KCSM 91.1 FM. In the final hours of the Herb Caen Days on April
7, 2002, Hank and Mal celebrated the Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist with
a program titled, "Herb Caen's Jazz Favorites." The playlist included sessions
by Bunny Berigan, Benny Goodman, Turk Murphy, Cal Tjader, and Ella Fitzgerald.
Kicking off the set was a Billie Holiday recording of the Johnny Burke
and Bob Haggart classic, "What's New." Mr. Caen was known to both love
the song and hate the question. |
