Panhandle Bandshell

originally posted 9/3/08: Dateline: Panhandle, Clayton Street between Oak and Fell, where Mister SF remembers the Panhandle Bandshell a year after the controversial installation graced this park. Fashioned from car hoods, computer boards, recycled steel, and other garbage, the small bandshell offered a public performance space for local street musicians and professionals alike. Some called it an eyesore. Seeing homeless people sleeping a few feet from the kids that play around here, I was fairy disgusted by the entire thing after several visits. However, at other times, I found it provided a fun atmosphere. We saw some great performers come out of their parlors to play in this public living room – probably more in keeping with what was intended by the artists. The bandshell will be rebuilt on Treasure Island in 2009. Visit the web site of the Panhandle Bandshell.
