Mister SF’s Roadshow: Prisoner of Melbourne

Amanda Muggleton is Chrissie Latham, the prostitute, murderer, and welfare cheat who stole the hearts of Prisoner fans when she stabbed Meg’s husband, social worker Bill Jackson, in the chest with scissors in the second episode. During multiple reprise appearances, Chrissie becomes a central character and one of the main group of sympathetic prisoners. Chrissie’s struggle to provide for daughter Elizabeth is a driving force, however, it must be said that with friends like Chrissie you don’t need enemies. She destroys Bea Smith’s journalism career with false accusations of sex harrassment by the kindly screw Steve Faulker, steals from the womens’ cells, and more.

Wha’ abou’ my baybay Bay!? (“What about my baby, Bea?”) As Chrissie, Muggleton created the cockney bits herself out of the writer’s straight lines.

Chrissie Latham makes frequent and exciting appearances from the beginning to Episode 339. Producers gave Muggleton the freedom to take stage roles and other parts that also showcased her versatile talent. Seen on DVD, the series is energized by Chrissie’s surprise returns and the havoc that usually ensues.
