Mister SF’s Roadshow: Prisoner of Melbourne
Wentworth Detention Centre: Page [1] [2]

Mr. and Mister SF in the driveway where Kath Maxwell leaves Merle “Looney” Jones behind when Looney gets her foot caught in the stairs during a botched escape – well, botched for Looney (and for Kath in the long run).

Here’s the scene of so many freedom walks, covered by a languid instrumental version of the show’s theme. Even officer Vera Bennett holds her head up high when she walks out of Wentworth. Others are dragged off, or in. Producer Ian Bradley confirms that the name comes from the small town, Wentworth, in a remote area of New South Wales near Mildura. “It was the most depressing place I had ever been to in my life,” says Bradley, “so I named the prison after it.”

How we got there: From Flinders Street Station, take either the Lilydale or Belgrave train to Nunawading Station. Exit the station and head south via foot or taxi on Springvale Road to Hawthorn Road (3 km).

When Doreen leaves posh Kirribilli, New South Wales in Episode 360, her roommate asks if Doreen’s old friend has asked her to move in with her, not knowing the “old friend” is Bea Smith herself. “No,” says Doreen, “but I wouldn’t mind.”

Here’s the location of the versatile tool shed/conjugal suite/prison store.

Lorna and Tina look like they’re having almost as much as fun as we are. Our counterparts vamped on this hill for the governor’s son, aspiring press photographer Paul Reynolds, in Episode 379.
