Melanie Daniels
(Tippi Hedren) meets Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor) at Davidson's Pet Shop
on Maiden Lane at the outset of The Birds. In 1963, Maiden Lane
was just the place you'd expect to see a spoiled socialite like Melanie
Daniels. She follows Brenner to Bodega Bay on a lark just in time to suffer
the consequences when nature - in this case thousands of
angry birds - strikes back. Original ending had Hedren and
Taylor waking in their row boat the morning after they survive the attack
on the north bay town. Through the fog appears the Golden Gate Bridge completely
covered with birds. The scene was abandoned during production of this exciting
Alfred Hitchock classic. Jessica Tandy, Suzanne Pleshette, and Veronica
Cartwright also appear.
