On a gloomy day
it's not at all difficult to imagine the San Francisco depicted in noir
thrillers like 1950's D.O.A. Notary public Frank Bigelow is poisoned
by a mystery man at the Fisherman, a saloon
typical of the longshoreman joints once familiar along the Embarcadero.
With just a few days to live, Bigelow (Edmond O'Brien) tries to find out
who killed him and why. Other locations include the St.
Francis Hotel on Powell Street, and the Chambord
Apartments. The Chambord stands in for the medical building where Bigelow's
poisoning is diagnosed. Directed by Ralph Mate.
