San Francisco in Cinema: Mrs. Doubtfire
San Francisco comedian and Bay Area native Scott Capurro appears as Aunt Jack, the lover of Harvey Fierstein and a hairdresser in the 1993 comedy Mrs. Doubtfire. Capurro launched his career at Josie's Cabaret in the Castro before becoming known as a gay comedian on the mainstream comedy circuit in the early 1990s. Shot on location in San Francisco, Mrs. Doubtfire was a huge financial success for director Chris Columbus and star Robin Williams. Williams plays a man who masquerades as a nanny to spend time with his kids under the nose of his estranged wife, Sally Field. Beauticians Capurro and Fierstein create the illusion. Capurro is now a familiar radio personality and has a following in Europe. The Doubtfire high jinx took place at 2640 Steiner Street in Pacific Heights.
