San Francisco in Cinema: Night Full of Rain

901 Mission Street
The Chronicle Building is the U.S. base for Giancarlo Giannini's Italian journalist in Lina Wertmuller's The End of the World in Our Usual Bed in a Night Full of Rain, aka Night Full of Rain. The 1978 film includes great footage of the South of Market area long before today's familiar development there. Wertmuller's usual stew of sex roles and politics is well represented in this, her first English language film. Candice Bergen is Giancarlo's capitalist foil this time around in a continuation of themes from Wertmuller's brilliant earlier work, Swept Away by a Strange Destiny in the Blue Sea of August, aka Swept Away.
