The Royal
Theatre was demolished on adjoining lots at 1630 California Street
and 1529 Polk Street beginning on June 14, 2003. The run down movie house
was razed for the construction of a six-story,
mixed-use building containing
up to 42 residential units, up to 9,950 square feet of ground-floor commercial
space, and a two-level underground garage containing up to 60 parking spaces,
according to Planning Commission records.
