Mister SF Remembers Loma Prieta

Dateline: San Francisco, where Mister SF remembers the 19th anniversary of the Loma Prieta Earthquake which struck at 5:04 pm on Oct. 17, 1989 and left 63 dead in the Bay Area.


Crocker Galleria, Montgomery and Post Streets. Clocks froze on or about 5:04.


Oct. 18, 1989: Mel’s Diner, 3355 Geary Blvd., where Mister SF and other downtown dwellers who were still without power went for food and other provisions. The long-gone Cala Foods that also saved the day is currently the new Toyota service center, 4099 Geary Blvd.


Oct. 18, 1989: Mister SF, Hank Donat was just a lad at Mel’s with Martita, a BFF before the term was coined. In 1989, we just called them cool chicks who live across the hall from gay guys. Continue Reading…
