Mister SF’s Roadshow: Prisoner of Melbourne

Jane Clifton is Margo Gaffney, the prison bookie. Like Anne Phelan and Belinda Davey, Clifton first appears in a small part in early episodes before returning to the cast in a more prominent role. In Episode 9, Clifton’s Yvonne parties with the paroled prostitute Marilyn, played by 30th Anniversary celebration attendee Margaret Laurence. “I promised my mother I wouldn’t make any more porno movies,” says Marilyn to Governor Erica Davidson.

Jane Clifton as Margo Gaffney. She makes an escape attempt at the men’s prison Woodridge and later takes up residence there after she burns Wentworth in the Great Fire, killing Mouse and Barbara Fields. In another of Clifton’s recurring appearances, she steals Meg Morris’ car from outside the Shoe Factory after escaping from Barnhurst in Episode 309. Clifton is a versatile performer who recorded the best version of “Music to Watch Girls By” we’ve ever heard. Her comedic novels have received critical acclaim, as has her cabaret act.
