Prisoner of Melbourne: Alice Jenkins

Mister SF’s Roadshow: Prisoner of Melbourne

Lois Collinder is Alice “Lurch” Jenkins. Collinder knitted sweaters for cast mates during long periods between scenes. At OTI’s event in St. Kilda, Collinder spoke eloquently of cast mate Elspeth Ballantyne. Ballantyne played Meg Jackson/Morris and is the only performer to appear in the entire series. Ballantyne sent regards. Collinder said she personally wanted everyone to know, “what a good person Ellie is,” perhaps a reference to enduring gossip about a feud between Val Lehman and Ballantyne. We want friends like Lois!

Alice Jenkins is one of the sentimental favorites of all prisoners and is the long-running program’s final romantic lead. She is most famous for her heart-breaking loyalty to best friend and gravely ill Top Dog, Rita Connors.

Surreal! That’s how Alice Collinder describes the affection people feel for Alice, a role she created nearly 30 years ago.

Mr. and Mister SF with Lois Collinder, an icon of friendship ‘til the endship!
