In San Francisco, almost anywhere you look is Escher City. Mysteries inherent in the work of this renown Dutch-born graphic artist are reflected in San Francisco, a city made of windows and stairs piled on gravity-defying hills. Played out in a maze of architecture, perspective, and impossible spaces, it is no wonder that San Franciscan lives follow a similar emotional trajectory. This fascination is expressed more explicitly toward San Francisco in Hitchcock's Vertigo and Maupin's Tales of the City. |
