Hooker
Alley - so named presumably because "Maiden Lane" was taken - is one
of many community gardens cared for by members of the San Francisco League
of Urban Gardeners.
The Hooker Alley Community Garden, on Mason Street between Bush and Pine, was threatened in 1980 when the owner of a parking garage around the corner on Bush Street wanted to pave Hooker Alley to create a Mason Street entrance for the garage. The attempt was thwarted by the Board of Supervisors. Detail I The Dearborn Community Garden is located at the corner of Dearborn and Bird between 17th and 18th Streets near the Women's Building in the Mission. Other community gardens are located throughout the City. |
