MisterSF.com: Heart of the City

San Francisco-based journalist Hank Donat is Mister SF. MisterSF.com began as an effort to inspire a City that was demoralized by the dot com bust in 2001. MisterSF.com and Heart of the City undertook the task of reminding neighbors down the block - and travelers worldwide - that the heart of San Francisco endured then, just as it does today, in the enchanted City. "Sometimes you have to know where to look, but not really," said Mister SF, "Here, you only have to remember to look at all." The City celebrated its "Online Ambassador" and his effort to support neighborhood concerns. With its unique content and first-hand observations and interviews, the site grew to become a trusted resource for outlets everywhere and an asset to communities at home. Hank's Heart of the City soon included a newspaper column and GPS-guided tour. In 2009, the site was named among “Five Helpful Web Sites for San Francisco” by Fodor’s for the second consecutive year.

NYT Gay Groom: In 2008, Hank appeared on the front page of The New York Times after he tossed his wedding bouquet from a balcony under the rotunda at San Francisco City Hall. Hank Donat and Jeff Halpern became the City's first gay grooms on June 17. The iconic image by Times photographer Peter Dasilva helped usher in a new era for the City and for its well known advocate, Mister SF, who would broaden his outlet to include themes of domestic philosophy and thoughts on marriage and equal rights.

Always at the epicenter of history, surrounded by the magic of San Francisco, Hank continues to enumerate the City's charms as seen through the lens of Mister SF, its Online Ambassador and first Gay Housewife.
