A requisite for visitors and locals too, a Chinatown outing is a good time. Still the largest Chinese neighborhood outside Asia, the City's Chinatown swirls with mystery and exotic detail. Tourists prefer Grant Avenue, San Franciscans Stockton Street. The rest belongs to both the poorest and the wealthiest Chinese and Chinese Americans in the City. Check out newly renovated Portsmouth Square, known as Chinatown's living room, then take the kids to the Fortune Cookie factory on Ross Alley. Chop suey was invented at Johnny Kan's at Grant and Sacramento. The San Franciscan knows the best place in town for cookware is the Gin Wall hardware store on Grant at Jackson.
