In spite of the recent insurgence then exodus of new-moneyed young people, the Mission District remains the seat of the City's Hispanic community. The recent flux is nothing new for this vibrant area. Past populations here were German, Italian, Irish, Native American, Asian, and Spanish communities. Today's Mission District mix ranges from the City's trendiest restaurants to its funkiest thrift stores and coffee houses.
