The
Western Addition - the W.A., as some neighbors call it - is another
popular nietherhood. Situated north of Oak and east of Broderick,
it's neither Pacific Heights nor the Fillmore. Once known as an impoverished
minority community, and a red light district popular with post war G.I.s
before that, the Western Addition has steadily undergone gentrification
since the '80s. The main commercial district is on Fillmore between
Oak and Geary. |
