Giants Celebrates 50 years in SF!

Baseball History: A crowd gathers for the 10:30 am ceremony marking 50 years since the expansion of major league baseball to the West Coast. On April 18, 1958 the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers faced off at this site, the northeast corner of 16th and Bryant. Seals Stadium sat here in 1958. A half Century later, baseball fans, Giants legends, surviving relatives of Mayor George Christopher, and team owners gathered to commemorate the event. Giants executive Larry Baer dedicated a plaque marking the former Seals Stadium location (outside a checking cashing business).

A photo of Seals Stadium hangs on a wall in the flower shop in the tower above the plaque at 16th & Bryant.
Sign of the Times: The Double Play was the bar across from the diamond.
