New and Venerable Institutions: See's Candies

846 Market Street
Headquartered in neighboring South San Francisco, See's Famous Old Time Candies have been a staple in the west since 1921. With pristine black and white shops, hand packed candies, and famously friendly staff, See's 200 stores continue a tradition of old-fashioned service. The best ingredients from all over the world go into over 100 varieties of candies. Mister SF favors the chocolate walnut fudge. A perennial favorite of See's customers is the Milk Chocolate Bordeaux, in addition to the same traditional assortment the stores have packed for more than 75 years. In 2001, in a marketing deal with Mattel, See's introduced "I Left my Heart in San Francisco" Barbie. Barbie rode a cable car, crossed the Golden Gate Bridge, and shopped at Union Square, but her favorite stop was See's. "I can hardly wait to fill my shopping bag and share their wonderful chocolate with all my friends," reports Barbie. No word yet on SOMA Barbie, who might want to lick the chocolate off Ken's pecs.
