New and Venerable Institutions: Tai Chi
The practice of Tai Chi was developed more than a thousand years ago in China as a method of balancing the mind and body. It's part workout, part mediation, part dance. The principal exercise, the Form, is a relaxing series of movements that reduces stress while building coordination and balance. Morning Tai Chi groups are a very familiar sight in many of San Francisco's parks, including Alamo Square, Brooks Park, Buena Vista Park, Cayuga Playground, Excelsior Playground, Huntington Park, McLaren Park, Precita Park, Stow Lake, Washington Square, West Portal Playground, and more.
