The
constitutionality of gay marriages performed in San Francisco in 2004
reached California's highest court on Tuesday, March 4, 2008. Justices
Joyce Kennard, Marvin Baxter, Katherine Mickel Werdegar, Ming Chin,
Carlos Moreno, Carol Corrigan, and Chief Justice Ronald George heard
arguments in favor of gay marriage from attorneys for the City of
San Francisco, approximately a dozen representative Wedstock
couples, Equality California, and Our Family Coalition.
Attorneys for the state, the governor, Proposition 22 Legal Defense
and Education Fund, and Campaign for California Families[but not yours
if you're gay!] testified against it. On the day of the hearing, a
decision was expected from the court in 90 days.
