Notorious SF: The Governator
San Francisco and Bay Area voters were unique among Californians when they overwhelmingly rejected the recall of Governor Gray Davis on October 7, 2003. The special election led to the removal of Davis from the governor's office by a statewide result of 55% in favor of the recall, 45% against. The San Francisco figures were 20% in favor of ousting Davis, 80% against. Terminator film star Arnold Shwarzenegger, the successful recall candidate, was sworn in on November 17, 2003. Shwarzenegger's signature and hand print are seen here at the defunct Planet Hollywood restaurant on Stockton Street.
