This heterosexual couple was married at City Hall on February 27, 2004, the same day George W. Bush ordered the Social Security Administration to refuse their marriage license and those of all San Francisco.

Bush's Wedding Ban: In response to Wedstock, on Friday, February 27, President George W. Bush directed the Social Security Administration to accept no marriage license from San Francisco dated after February 12, 2004. In a prepared statement, Mayor Gavin Newsom said, "What the President did today is both political and retaliatory. He is now discriminating against San Franciscans gay and straight. Three days earlier, Bush called for a Constitutional Amendment banning gays from marrying in America, claiming that the gay couples, such as Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin, would bring about the breakdown of society.
