On November 25, 2002, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors banned inventor Dean Kamen's Segway Human Transporter from City sidewalks. The supervisors rejected arguments that the scooters might actually help the elderly and disabled get around rather than create a hazard for those people and other pedestrians on the sidewalks of San Francisco.
