Lee and Bette Higbie-Briggs
became instant San Franciscans when they were the first couple married at
"the new" City Hall. Mister SF received a lovely note from Bette who, with
her large gray hat, looked like Kees Van Dongen's
"Portrait of Dolly" on her wedding day. "Lee and I felt surrounded by
friends," Bette says, "because San Franciscans attending opening day ceremonies
were so welcoming, and shared our joy. It is indeed possible for two people
from other regions - DC and Anchorage - to join
here and become enveloped in the love that makes San Francisco the City
of Hearts."
