Abandoned Bookstore’s Last Day

Abandoned Planet: Page [1] [2] [3]

As San Franciscans we greeted the new year, predictably, with goodbye. Not only had the Carnelian Room closed its doors for good following a crowded New Year’s Eve party, but now the Abandoned Planet Bookstore was selling its last copy of The Picture of Dorian Gray.

We’ve been watching bookstores drop off the landscape for many years. Abandoned Planet was one of the best, due to its cozy atmosphere and eclectic selection.

Bookstores are an endangered species, and the city should cut them a deal to stay in business… Let the City sit down with them, and find out what can be done to help them. I love my ‘hood’s Great Overland Book Company, on Judah, just east of 9th Ave.
